2019 MN Data Standards Changes Take Effect Today!
As a reminder, the changes to MN’s data standards go into effect today (7/1/2019). There are two new Minnesota Universal Data Elements (MN UDEs) and changes to two current MN UDEs. These additions and changes to MN UDEs will have an impact on all clients still enrolled in your program(s) as of July 1, 2019 and new clients going forward, regardless of funding type. Clients that have exited your program(s) prior to 7/1/2019 do not need their records updated to include the new data elements.
ServicePoint will be updated throughout the day to reflect these changed elements and will be completely updated by the end of the day on July 1, 2019. If you find an assessment that doesn’t reflect these changes, please contact the Helpdesk for assistance.
New Element: County Where Resides
Impact on Users
Clients who are currently enrolled in any HMIS project on 7/1/2019 should have their Head of Household’s record updated on the Entry/Exit tab.
Moving forward, all Head of Households will have this information collected at Project Start Date.
New Element: Domestic Violence question series

All Head of Households and Adults who are currently enrolled in any HMIS project on 7/1/2019 should have their record updated on the Entry/Exit tab.

Wording Change: Institutional History
Impact on Users
The question “Leave any of these (0-3 months ago)” will be changed to “Did the client leave any of the places listed in the last 3 months before project start date?”
This question has been reworded to more clearly communicate what is being asked for. Nothing else is changing about this element.
Please note, the wording in the question “Leave any of these (3-6 months ago)” has also been changed to “Did the client leave any of the places listed over 3 months ago, up to 6 months ago?” This is not a MN Universal Data Element and only MN Housing LTH, DHS LTHSSF, DHS Housing Support projects will see this question on their assessments.
Data Collected About Change: Foster Care
Impact on Users
The question “Are you or have you ever been in foster care?” will be changed to include all clients 26 years old and under (changed from 24 years old and under). Nothing else is changing about this element.
All data collection forms and the Minnesota HMIS Data Standards Guide have been updated to reflect these changes. Reports that contain MN Universal Data Elements will be updated to reflect the changes by mid-September 2019.
