FY 2019 Minnesota Data Standards Changes

2019 Minnesota Data Standards Changes

Minnesota HMIS Data Standards Changes for 2019 will take effect on Monday, July 1st, 2019. Unlike the HUD HMIS Data Standards Changes that happen in October, there will be no system downtime due to these changes. To prepare users for these upcoming changes, we want to provide a brief overview of the changes and information on training and support.

What's Changing?

There are two new Minnesota Universal Data Elements (MN UDEs) and changes to two current MN UDEs. These additions and changes to MN UDEs will have an impact on all clients, regardless of funding type.

New Element: County where resides

Impact on Users

  • Clients who are currently enrolled in any HMIS project on 7/1/2019 should have their Head of Household's record updated on the Entry/Exit tab.

  • Moving forward, all Head of Households will have this information collected at Project Start Date.

New Element: Domestic Violence question series

Impact on Users

  • All Head of Households and Adults who are currently enrolled in any HMIS project on 7/1/2019 should have their record updated on the Entry/Exit tab.

  • Moving forward, all Head of Households will have this information collected at Project Start Date.

Wording Change: Institutional History

Impact on Users

  • The question "Leave any of these (0-3 months ago)" will be changed to "Did the client leave any of the places listed in the last 3 months before project start date?"

  • This question has been reworded to more clearly communicate what is being asked for. Nothing else is changing about this element.

Data Collected About Change: Foster Care

Impact on Users

  • The question "Are you or have you ever been in foster care?" will be changed to include all clients 26 years old and under (changed from 24 years old and under). Nothing else is changing about this element.

We hosted a live webinar session that went over these changes. The webinar is a supplemental piece to other training materials that have been provided and was dedicated to giving HMIS users a chance to ask questions about the changes. View the recording of the webinar here! (PPT slides)
