Re-imagining HMIS User Groups

In 2017, ICA offered the first User Groups for HMIS end users in Minnesota. Since then, we’ve experimented with our approach: regional versus statewide, in-person versus virtual, and rotating facilitators.

ICA supports our communities by helping you do data better. Hosting User Groups enabled our HMIS community to connect with each other. It also enabled us to offer relevant continuing education of Minnesota’s HMIS.

Because of that, we were slow decide that for the next few months, ICA will not offer User Groups. Why not? A moment presented itself to pause and re-evaluate. The HMIS MN Governing Board is working on a strategic plan for Minnesota’s HMIS. The Implementation Committee, a sub-committee of the Minnesota HMIS Governing Board, will be forming a new identity through the strategic plan and articulating a clearer purpose. This will include clearer alignment in their work with Minnesota’s user training efforts and with User Group objectives. Therefore, we feel it makes sense for User Groups to be reimagined in partnership with Implementation Committee in the coming months.

In the meantime, if you loved what you learned in User Groups, here are some ways to expand your knowledge of Minnesota’s HMIS:

  1. Take look at our MN HMIS Knowledge Base  – new articles are posted regularly!

  2. Log back into the Moodle training site and access existing content on demand

  3. Consider joining the Implementation Committee and investing in the future of Minnesota’s HMIS as a user representative

  4. And be sure to say hi to ICA team members when we cross paths out in the community!

Keep your eyes on the MN HMIS newsletter to stay up-to-date on the future of HMIS User Groups.
