NHSDC Presentations Recap

In spring 2022, several members of the Minnesota HMIS community were selected to present to a national audience of homeless response service providers at the National Human Services Data Consortium (NHSDC) conference. This conference gathers HMIS enthusiasts from across the country for networking and learning, and was hosted in our own Minneapolis. Jennifer Leimaile Ho, the commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, gave an inspiring opening address.

Materials from the conference are now available to the public. See below for a description of each session presented by a friend of Minnesota's HMIS, and for a link to the session materials.

Get the work done and feel good about it: Amy Olsen-Highness and Laura Birdsong (ICA) presented on strategies for successful project management.

Does a drop-in and case management model improve outcomes for young adults experiencing homelessness?: A group including Katelyn Warburton (DHS OEO) presented on a case study from Youthlink, a HMIS-participating organization.

Connecting data across systems to support vaccination efforts with people experiencing homelessness: A group including Geoff Gimse (ICA) and Hattie Hiler (MHFA / Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness) presented on joint efforts to use HMIS data alongside other systems data to ensure equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine for people experiencing homelessness.

Adventures in joint HMIS data quality monitoring: Abby Guilford (formerly of SMAC CoC), Sara Gomoll (MHFA), and Emily Salvaterra (ICA) presented on the QDQ Monitoring process.

Integrating data to drive progress: A group including Britt Heinz-Amborn (ICA) presented on the Homework Starts with Home Initiative.

On the NHSDC Conference Session archive, you can also view materials from sessions led by HUD and by other communities. This is a great place to learn about innovations in the world of human services data.

If you missed the conference but are interested in live opportunities for learning, NHSDC is hosting a virtual summer session July 11 - 14. Several sessions from the spring were asked to present again, so look out for 'Get the work done and feel good about it' and 'Adventures in joint HMIS data quality monitoring'! Registration details are available on the NHSDC website.
