HUD Data Standards - Your Feedback is needed!

The Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) is asking for feedback on to HMIS data elements. These are the required questions and response options in HMIS that are asked across the country - the stuff we cannot change at the local level.

This is an opportunity for your voice to be heard. This feedback process began last year, but their deadline approaching on May 31, 2025.

You might consider adding this to staff or community meeting agenda to gather feedback however you like. Then, you can provide feedback to HUD two ways:

  • Survey - CLICK HERE

    • Submitting this way will help categorized recommended changes and reduce the need for back-and-forth communication

  • Email - HMIS@hud.gov

    • This is a good option if you summarized feedback in a document and want to share it directly.

Note that this is a HUD-driven feedback process. ICA is not collecting feedback on behalf of the statewide community. Rather, you are encouraged and welcome to submit it directly to HUD.

Here are the HUD universal and common program specific data elements for quick reference:

The full 2024 HUD Data Standards Manual and Dictionary have not been posted back on the HUD Exchange since being taken down in January. If you need a copy of that document to inform your feedback, let us know on Helpdesk and we can send you a pdf.
